Marnus Labuschagne Omitted from Australia's One-Day International Team Against Team India

The Australian selectors have left out Labuschagne from the three-match ODI series facing India, as high-performing Queensland teammate Matt Renshaw receiving a shock inclusion.

Recent Form Lead to Exclusion

The right-hander was left out from the one-day international squad following scoring just one run in each of his two innings during the recent series against South Africa in August. Labuschagne has a best innings of 47 in his last 10 ODI batting appearances.

Labuschagne has featured in 68 ODIs and accumulated 1,871 ODI runs at an average of 34.64, but will now focus on earning a return to the Test side in time for the Ashes starting in Perth on 21 November.

Renshaw's Return and Other Squad Changes

Labuschagne has shown signs of a resurgence with 160 for Queensland in the domestic first-class competition this week, while Renshaw made a century for the Bulls in the same game against Tasmania.

The left-hander may to make his ODI debut in the upcoming series against India after last being included in an ODI squad in 2022.

He has played 14 Test matches with the last coming in India in 2023 but is also seeking a Test return as Australia seek a answer to their batting top-order problems.

Bowling Returns and Injury News

Left-arm quick Mitchell Starc makes a comeback for the ODI series against India after having time off since starring for Australia in the 3-0 Test series sweep of West Indies in July.

BBL performer Mitch Owen could make his ODI debut after suffering a concussion in the lead up to Australia’s last 50-over series against South Africa.

ODI captain Pat Cummins is still unavailable as he hopes to heal from a spinal issue in time to lead Australia in the opening Test of the Ashes in November.

Squad Selection Strategy and Fixtures

Australia have selected a squad for only the initial two T20 matches against India with the upcoming Ashes series, although Glenn Maxwell will sit out the five-game T20 series due to a wrist injury suffered in New Zealand.

Mitch Marsh will captain both the ODI and T20 sides after smashing a century in the final game against New Zealand to secure a two-nil victory last week.

“We have named a squad for the ODI series and initial two matches of the T20 series as there will be rotation through the back end of the series as players get ready for the cricket season through domestic first-class matches,” selection chief George Bailey said.
“The bulk of the T20 squad will remain together as it’s an crucial phase in the preparation for the World Cup next year, however we are aiming to find equilibrium to ensure we simultaneously prepare certain individuals for the Test matches ahead.”

Australia’s three-match ODI series against India starts on October 19 in Perth, before the opponents play five T20s from October 29.
